Jennifer Lopez is in her comfort zone, and Office Romance is the sort of movie the internet wanted this weekend. Humorous, incisive, and, most importantly, heartfelt, it premiered on June 5, 2026, and its audience is not able to talk about it.
J.Lo plays a CEO
Lopez stars as Jackie Cruz, the high-powered president and CEO of AirCruz airline. She maintains a strict no-fraternisation policy and has a tight ship in all levels of the company. Then, some other lawyer comes in, and all that she has so painstakingly constructed in her professional life comes crashing down on her.
The Attorney Who Alters All Things
Brett Goldstein stars as Daniel Blanchflower, the astute company lawyer, to provide services to AirCruz when it faces a major legal scandal. Goldstein co-wrote the script with his Ted Lasso co-creator Joe Kelly and cast himself as the lead character, as he had always imagined Lopez as the only other actor when the revival began.
Written For Lopez
Netflix Tudum revealed that the idea arose when Goldstein and Kelly were on a three-hour train ride, and they were filming Ted Lasso Season 3. Both are ardent lovers of traditional rom-coms, and they desired writing one that would solely be based on Lopez. In later interviews, Goldstein said that he actually had half-hoped someone would come over and inform him that it was a prank.
The Director Behind It
Ol Parker, the director of “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” and “Ticket to Paradise,” helmed the film. Parker explained to People that the script was so raunchier and a bit ruder than the material that she had been used to doing, and that was exactly what she was in need of.
Lopez Refers To It as a Rom Com
In an interview with the press before the premiere, Lopez explained that he felt that the script was something special. She referred to it as a com rom, a conventional romance constructed on contemporary, more edgy humour. The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that she does not attempt to appeal to the viewers, but she just is.
The Supporting Cast
A really great ensemble is completed by Betty Gilpin, Amy Sedaris, Tony Hale, and Bradley Whitford. Captain Jack Cruz, the father of Jackie and founder of their company, Edward James Olmos, reappears on screen as the father of Lopez, her first onscreen appearance since Selena in 1997.
Shot in New Jersey
It started principal photography in March 2025 and filmed throughout New Jersey, including Kenilworth. Lopez Nuyorican Productions, in collaboration with Ryder Picture Company, under a first-look deal with Netflix, supported the production.
An Inverted Relationship of Power
The planned anti-hierarchical workplace is what makes the romance work. Press reports have quoted Goldstein saying that there are loaded relationships in the workplace. In this case, all power rests with the CEO of Lopez, and this tension that ensues provides the most interesting and entertaining pieces of the film at any point.
Why Does it Strike Variously?
Office Romance does not rest on nostalgia. It deserves all the laughs because of emotionally-based characters in the real professional stakes. The world premiere was at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood on May 26, 2026, and the response of the audience was instant, and indeed enthusiastic, and fully electric.
