And, should you ever have wished somebody to harness the apparently infinite power of The Fugitive, squeeze it between the crunch of the even larger rough-hewn action of Extraction, and then unleash it into a primal, frozen Alaska wilderness, then Apple TV+ heard you. And just that show – and more The Last Frontier.
What It Is

The Last Frontier is a 10-part documentary series, created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, with Extraction director Sam Hargrave as an executive producer and director of individual episodes, which Apple TV+ confirms. It premiered on October 10, 2025, and has been holding the top charts with viewers on the streaming sites ever since.
The Setup

An accident occurs to a convict train, two miles south of a small, peaceful Alaska town. Frank Remnick, the U.S. Marshal. The only U.S. Marshal and nearly retired, Frank Remnick is abruptly engaged in chasing all 50 runaways on foot, and the CIA is desperately rushing to the site of the crash before the ever-deepening cover-up can be even more at risk of being discovered.
The Lead

Apple Studios has affirmed that Jason Clarke plays the role of Frank Remnick, who is the only marshal who patrols the snow-covered, rocky borders of Fairbanks, Alaska. Clarke is a subtly compelling man; a blighted man in an unworthy occupation in an unworthy locale, and somehow causes you to think that there is something special, something special about all ten episodes in every minute.
The Supporting Cast

The following list includes Haley Bennett and Dominic Cooper, Simone Kessell and Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, and Alfre Woodard, who appear in the list of cast members on Apple TV+. Bennett describes, with icy, callous passion, CIA agitator Sidney Scofield and Woodard and Cooper juggernauts as they turn any scene they enter into the splendor of some great cause.
The CIA Twist

Upon arrival of Sidney, he discovers that he was a CIA agent Havlock who did not die in a car accident, and asks Frank to assist him. Since their missions overlap, Variety observes that the show can be most fun when it takes on its procedural traditions, presenting one captured criminal each episode at a fulfilling, inexorable rate.
The Hargrave Effect

Esquire also states that Sam Hargrave adds a cinematic depth and a grotesque sense of humour to the film, most notably when the plane full of captives collides, and people are floating around the plane in zero-gravity, with Elvis playing on the airplane. The whole zeal of this show could not be in one image, not even a synopsis.
Critic Reviews

The fans of The Fugitive or The Extraction would find it a fantastic binge, as Collider referred to it. The reason is a good premise and a skilled cast, which was marked as good by Hollywood Reporter, but Variety termed the first episode of the series as an amusing bait-and-switch that lures the viewer to the Alaskan wilderness and seldom lets him out of its grip.
The Alaska Factor

Esquire mentions that the creators intentionally created Alaska as a character. The wilderness gave some color of danger which the escaping men had to overcome with the help of local game hunters and the people, and with every shot of pursuit came fresh, sickening feelings of terror never to be met with in a town setting.
Should You Watch It

Yes, verily, and here is 2026, the reality. The hypothetical Deadline + Variety cancellation means that the series will be canceled by Apple TV+ in December 2025 (a year later) despite having achieved great streaming ratings. The ten episodes continue to be live on Apple TV+. Watch it, understanding it is only one season, and enjoy all the brilliant and infuriating, red-eye bingeable minutes of it.
