There are several movies that have come out of Bollywood that boast a stellar cast of well-known performers, but not all of them got the success they deserve. Some of these were eclipsed at the box office, and others slowly gained recognition via TV and online platforms. As great as their casts have been, these films have not gained the attention of many.
Gulaal (2009)
This dark political drama, helmed by Anurag Kashyap, is about a fictional separatist movement in Rajasthan. It’s an extensive ensemble that features Raj Singh Chaudhary, Kay Kay Menon, Abhimanyu Singh, Deepak Dobriyal, Aditya Srivastava, and Jesse Randhawa.
Aakrosh (2010)
A hard-hitting socio-political thriller dealing with honor killings. It boasts an array of renowned names such as Ajay Devgn, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Paresh Rawal, Reema Lagoo, and Rajpal Yadav, amongst others.
Zubeidaa (2001)
The lavish biographical drama about a royal princess has many big names like Karisma Kapoor, Rekha, Manoj Bajpai, Surekha Sikri, Rajit Kapur, Lilette Dubey, and Amrish Puri.
Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa (1998)
Govind Nihalani’s heart-wrenching tribute to the Naxalbari movement features such powerhouses as Jaya Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Seema Biswas, Joy Sengupta, Milind Gunaji, and Nandita Das.
Raajneeti (2010)
A modern version of the Mahabharata, it is relatively effective, but is not as well-known as it should be for its size. The cast is massive with Ajay Devgn, Nana Patekar, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Manoj Bajpayee, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sarah Thompson.
Lakshya (2004)
This cult hit wasn’t a box office winner, though it has become popular among some. It features a massive ensemble that includes Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Amitabh Bachchan, Om Puri, Sushant Singh, Raj Zutshi, and Boman Irani in the lead.
Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)
A dysfunctional family comedy-drama on a very large cruise ship. There is a huge ensemble of actors like Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Vikrant Massey, and Rahul Bose.
Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014)
This sleeper hit, which is often regarded as a mere action flick, boasts a huge cast of characters that have to scoot around and track sleeper cells, including Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Govinda, Sumeet Raghavan, Freddy Daruwala, and Zakir Hussain.
Lagaan (2001)
This sports-drama epic is crammed with a ton of villagers and British officers. Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh lead the cast, with a huge ensemble of Yashpal Sharma, Raghuvir Yadav, Paul Blackthorne, and Rachel Shelley, to Rajesh Vivek.
Tamasha (2015)
Imtiaz Ali’s deeply psychological romantic drama may not have been a blockbuster, but it is very loved. It has a massive ensemble of supporting cast in separate snippets that includes Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Piyush Mishra, Javed Sheikh, Sushma Seth, and Vivek Mushran.
