In 1978, George Clinton and Funkadelic constructed an unstoppable force. The song, which spent a total of six weeks at the top of the Billboard R&B singles chart, is widely regarded as one of the best funk songs ever recorded and was included on One Nation Under a Groove. Just that bassline could rattle an entire stadium of people.
Last Dance Lives On(1978)

Last Dance by Donna Summer from the film Thank God It’s Friday achieved an unlikely hat trick – winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song. PRODUCER Bob Esty’s transition from sultry ballad to full disco throb still endures as one of the hair-on-the-back-of-your-neck stand-up-and-shout musical moments ever pressed on a dance record.

CIW: Nearly 10th for this one -at the hand of the B-side – but Ms. Gaynor took matters into her own hands, marched it into Studio 54 and re-wrote history as we know it. It hit No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1979, won a Grammy for Best Disco Recording and now resides permanently in the Library of Congress National Recording Registry.
