Amish community is probably one of the most prominent and identifiable cultural groups in the United States, being characterized by extreme religious adherence, tradition, and lifestyle, which places an emphasis on simplicity and community values. Although there are numerous Amish settlements all over the country, some states can be singled out as having very high populations, with generations of families creating successful rural communities and maintaining their unique style of life.
Pennsylvania Heartland
It is common knowledge that Pennsylvania has been the historic center of the Amish life in America and the Lancaster County is one of the oldest places and most renowned settlements by Amish families since the eighteenth century. The state still boasts of the highest Amish population in the nation with fertile farmlands, family ties and settlements that retain their traditions but silently adjust to the reality of today.
Ohio Communities
Another thriving hub of Amish people has been Ohio, especially in Holmes County and surrounding communities where the undulating fields and small small towns have offered the perfect environment to live simple lives of the Amish. These settlements are characterized by high priorities in craftsmanship, agriculture, and small family enterprises serving the needs of local markets and tourists who want to learn more about Amish heritage.
Wisconsin Villages
In Wisconsin, there has been a consistent increase in the Amish community moving to more rural communities that are quieter and the land is cheaper and the community can naturally develop. The Small Amish villages spread throughout the state keep on growing by farming and the use of traditional trades, which gives the families an opportunity to preserve their values as they live close to the nature and stick to the community.
New York Farms
New York is now a popular place among the Amish families that are seeking new farmland particularly in the rural counties where open spaces and farms have not yet been exhausted. The Amish number in the state has been growing on a significant scale over the past few decades, and dozens of the settlements are constantly expanding, along with every successive generation.
Michigan Settlements
Michigan has few Amish communities which are scattered in the rural areas of the state with the families occupied in farming, woodworking amongst other traditional activities which sustain simple life. Most of these settlements are smaller in size than Pennsylvania or Ohio, but each of them lives in the deeply rooted Amish culture and community life.
Missouri Growth
The Amish settlement in Missouri has been one of the unnoticed fast expanding states with families migrating out of the older settlements to find cheap land and conducive environment. The countryside of the state gives the area that is required to expand the farms and new church districts which enables Amish communities to be developing and keep their traditions.
Kentucky Homesteads
Kentucky has over the years come up with several Amish communities especially in the rural counties where farm land and peaceful living conditions make it favorable to the Amish family. Such communities mirror the values of other Amish communities, where family ties are highly valued, agricultural activities are taken seriously and there is a desire to maintain a lifestyle that has been in existence since time immemorial.
