These myths have been used in Hindi films to create spooky scenarios, which are either horror or cultural. These films bring to life stories that date back to myths and nectarous beings, all the way to ancient beliefs.
Tumbbad (2018)

Tumbbad expertly rides on Maharashtrian folklore and dark atmospheric storytelling to poke at a vicious loop of generational greed, mostly by focusing on a fictional deity named Hastar.
Ek Thi Daayan (2013)

The movie was based on the legend of the daayan, a witch-like figure that has been a part of Indian folklore for centuries. The story discusses the beliefs of people about women who are considered supernatural and black magicians.
Bulbbul (2020)

The story of Bulbbul was set in Bengal, with the setting based upon local mythology about the chudail, a female spirit that is frequently linked to tragedy and revenge. The film was a hybrid of horror, folklore, and social commentary.
Pari (2018)

The horror concept was inspired by tales of demonic entities, esoteric beliefs, and local legends. Several elements have been interwoven into the film, which is based on South Asian folklore and spiritual beliefs.
Roohi (2021)

It’s kind of a horror comedy film, directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios. It takes inspiration from older legends of the Mudiyapairi, a spirit figure that’s said to hang around in parts of northern India.

Mahal was one of the first Hindi horror films and delved into elements of reincarnation and ghostly houses, inspired by folklore and ghost stories prevalent in India.

The movie was based on the old stories of haunted houses, possession, and the strange things that happen, which are common in Indian folklore and paranormal tales.
Chhorii (2021)

The horror thriller blended legends about spirits, superstitions, and rural beliefs. The film’s atmosphere of fear and local legends was achieved through traditional ones.
