Sanjay Leela Bhansali coming up with a film is something that the entire film industry looks upon. His all-out attempts to make an ambitious movie in years, Love and War, brings to the silver screen three of Bollywood’s biggest actors, with all guns blazing, it looks set to become a landmark cinematic event.
Bhansali’s Legacy

Bhansali has been working for the last 30 years, cultivating one of the most unique oeuvres in Indian cinema. His movies, from Devdas to Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat to Gangubai Kathiawadi, have a sweeping emotion, opulent cinematography, and are very personal. Variety is reporting that Love and War is his biggest scope yet.
The Story
Love and War is an epic tale of passion, pride, and conflict – a big-budget love triangle, according to Variety -which saw the incorporation of some pretty extensive VFX work that brought the whole thing to greater heights. Bhansali personally penned the movie’s script and is involved in all aspects of creation, as he has been in his previous films.
Release Date Confirmed

The movie had several reschedulings as it had a November 2026 release date, then a March 2026 date, and finally got its official confirmation by Bhansali Productions on their Instagram on April 17, 2026, with a global release date of January 21, 2027, ahead of Republic Day weekend in India. That is the only definite window that the production house provided.
Ranbir’s Return
Coming nearly 20 years after the release of Saawariya, which had to do with the launch of Ranbir Kapoor’s career, the film is the second in which the director Bhansali is working alongside the actor. According to Variety, Kapoor’s latest film is Animal, which was released in 2023 and is one of the highest-grossing Indian films. The reunion marks a conscious effort to make prestige movies.
Alia Reunites
Before this, Alia Bhatt and Bhansali joined hands on Gangubai Kathiawadi that opened at the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival, Variety reports. One of the most anticipated features of the project is her return to his world, both for the audience and critics.
Vicky’s First
With Love and War, Vicky Kaushal is making his debut with Bhansali. Chhaava is yet another project in which Kaushal has come up with 2025’s biggest hit in Bollywood. He has added some box office momentum and a name in the show with his excellent acting.
Production Scale
The movie is made by Bhansali Productions, in association with Jio Studios, and will be in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The experience is centered around the amount of VFX in them and the level of production design, all in line with what Bhansali has done in his career.
On Delays
This isn’t the first time that Bhansali has adapted the concept of a date shift. Variety reports that three films were shifted to earlier time periods in the lead-up to their releases – all three (Bajirao Mastani, Padmaavat, and Gangubai Kathiawadi) did well in theaters. The same cannot be guaranteed in the future based on the past results, but it is difficult to overlook the results.
