Woody returns, and this time the stakes are again more curious and relatable than ever. The fifth film in the Toy Story franchise, directed by Pixar, launches in theaters on June 19, 2026, and will reunite Tom Hanks and Tim Allen for a Pixar adventure centered on a truly modern issue.
Woody Returns Again

With Toy Story 5’s release, seven years after Toy Story 4, Tom Hanks reappears as Woody. Recently, Hanks called the movie a lively and appropriate sequel to the other Toy Story movies, and he stated that none of the cast can still fully believe they are still in it.
The Full Gang

The cast list of people returned is massive and exciting. Tim Allen is back as Buzz Lightyear and Joan Cusack as Jessie with Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Tony Hale as Forky, Wallace Shawn as Rex, and John Ratzenberger as Hamm.
Jessie Takes Center

This sequel places Jesse in the limelight as the franchise has never shone such light before. Tim Allen has affirmed in interviews that the movie is more of Jesse, and the cowgirl (Joan Cusack) is more of a de facto leader of the group, with Woody involved through the use of the walkie-talkie.
Toys Versus Tech

The main tension of the story is as up-to-date as it can be: traditional toys and the irresistible attraction of new technology. Eight-year-old Bonnie is more and more attracted to screens, and Woody and Buzz (along with other members of the gang) really wonder whether they have a place in her life.
Meet Lilypad

Lilypad, a frog-shaped smart tablet and voiced by Past Lives star Greta Lee, is the primary antagonist of the film. Obviously inspired by the LeapPad educational system by LeapFrog Enterprises, Lilypad provides little Bonnie with the whole world at the tip of her finger, which can not be realistically challenged by any traditional toy.
Not Quite a Villain

Director Andrew Stanton informed Variety that Lilypad was an antagonist, rather than a villain. She sincerely desires to help Bonnie, just as the toys do, but with totally different abilities. Stanton announced in the June 2026 issue of Empire, simply: once technology gets in the room, it always wins.
Behind the Camera

Co-directors of Toy Story 5 are co-directors Andrew Stanton, who has been at Pixar since making their debut with Finding Nemo and WALL-E, and first-time feature co-director McKenna Harris. Collaborator of the show since its inception, Lindsey Collins does the production, and once again, the legendary franchise composer, Randy Newman, is tasked with the music of the entire original score.
Emotional Storytelling

One of the scenes that Tom Hanks as one of the saddest in the entire history of the franchise was singled out by him. It is focused on Bonnie being really hurt and lost when reading the messages of other children on the Internet. These open remarks were posted by Hanks in time before the release of the film in June of 2026 in theaters.
New Additions

New actors to the cast are Conan O Brien as Smarty Pants, Craig Robinson as Atlas the GPS hippo, Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase, and Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze. Jeff Bergman and Anna Vocino also come in to play the roles of the new voices of Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head.
See It in Theaters

Toy Story 5 is only released in theaters on June 19, 2026. You may have been raised with Woody and Buzz in 1995, or you might be taking your own kids on the first trip, but this one is poised to do everything that the franchise so loved by Pixar has always really promised.
