There’s nothing like horror and comedy together, but Hindi movies have made it a most entertaining genre! Whether it be ghost palaces, playful ghouls, or zombies, Bollywood horror comedies have not only given the audience hilarious characters, film songs, and box-office success but also legends. The genre has expanded massively in the last 20 years, and some have even started introducing related film universes.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)

Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a film directed by Priyadarshan that revolves around a family that visits their ancestral palace and witnesses some mysterious incidents related to a legend named Manjulika. The movie went on to become a big hit, and Akshay Kumar’s comic timing and Vidya Balan’s sensational acting played a significant role in making it a cult classic.
Stree (2018)

Based on the urban legend of Nale Ba, Stree revolves around a spirit that visits a small town during a religious festival. It featured the team of Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, and was one of the biggest Hindi films of 2018, and the start of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe.
Munjya (2024)

Based on a folk tale from the region of Konkan, Munjya is the tale of a naughty ghost whose unfulfilled wish brings trouble to a young man and his family. The movie has emerged as one of the biggest shocks of 2024 and offered another addition to Maddock’s supernatural world.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022)

The sequel featured Kartik Aaryan as Ruhaan, getting entangled in another inexplicable haunting at a royal house. The movie became one of the biggest box-office hits of the year 2022 and brought a resurgence in the popular franchise.
Go Goa Gone (2013)

The movie is Bollywood’s first major zombie comedy, which is about three friends who get trapped in Goa during a zombie epidemic. Saif Ali Khan’s weirdo zombie hunter emerged as one of the highlights of the film.
Bhoot Police (2021)

This supernatural comedy is about two brothers who say they’re ghost hunters and are hired to investigate a remote town with mysterious goings-on. The movie combines myth, action, and comedy elements with a cast comprising a galaxy of stars that includes Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor.
Roohi (2021)

Like Stree, Roohi also takes place in the same universe, but is about a woman possessed by a spirit that targets brides. The movie is a mix of romance, comedy, and supernatural, with the cast of Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, and Varun Sharma.
Kakuda (2024)

Kakuda is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar and is about the villagers who are confronted by an unusual curse in the village, related to local folklore. The movie combines mystery, comedy, and horror, and delves into themes of superstition and tradition.
Phone Bhoot (2022)

The movie features Katrina Kaif, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ishaan Khatter, and is about two friends who team up with a ghost to solve supernatural conundrums. It was an unusual addition to the genre for its quirky humor and its colorful visuals.
The Bhootnii (2025)

The Bhootnii is a movie starring Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, Sunny Singh, and Palak Tiwari and is about a spirit that returns, causing chaos and comedy. The film was Bollywood’s newest trend of mixing supernatural with comedy.
